Bears and Other Land Animals
Occasionally other land animals were used for footwear, including bears, wolves, wolverines and beaver. The leg skins of bears and wolves were especially durable and highly prized. The status of a hunter rises once he has killed a bear because of the great danger involved, and rituals are performed before hunting bears to reduce the risk of attack.
