This ceremonial sandal features a thick sole comprised of thirteen layers of rawhide stitched with sinew and was made by a traditional craftsman in the coastal region Benadir in Somalia. The dramatically upturned toe, elaborate stitching and elegant heart-shaped back part of the sole suggest that this sandal and its partner were probably made for a ceremony.
