Cameroon

Metal casting has been practiced in West Africa for centuries, with the most famous examples coming from Benin. Among the Bamun of Cameroon, casting was traditionally thought to have been discovered when a king found that metal could be extracted from rocks in the village of Mambe and that bronze could be made. Traditional African metal casting is done using the Lost Wax Method. For this method the model is sculpted out of wax around which the casting mould is formed. Molten metal is then poured into the mould, melting the wax.
