Rising Stars

With their feet on the ground and their heads in the sky, the youths of the 1970s continued to explore the new opportunities opened up by 1960s counterculture. The challenges to proscribed modes of gendered behaviour ushered in a fashion for androgyny and unisex style.

For the first time since the aristocratic age, men once again wore elevating shoes. Male rock stars popularized the fashion by wearing extremely high platforms and their fans soon followed.
