Eastern Plains and Prairies

The Eastern section of the Great Plains was home to the many village tribes found settled along the rivers and on the Prairies. The permanent villages created by peoples such as the Mandan, Hidatsa, Iowa and Omaha were frequently centres of trade. It was from these eastern settlements that new styles were transmitted onto the Plains.
